鏡もちは、お正月に飾られる日本の伝統的な縁起物で、年神様を迎えるための大切なお供えものです。丸いおもちを重ねた形は、人の魂や円満を表す「鏡」に由来するといわれ、家庭円満や無病息災、繁栄への願いが込められています。
二段重ねの鏡もちは、「月と太陽」や「過去と未来」などを表し、物事が円満に続いていくことを願う形です。上にのせる橙（だいだい）は「代々」に通じ、家が代々続いていくことを象徴しています。三段重ねは、さらに福や繁栄が重なっていくことを願う、より丁寧なお供えの形とされ、地域によっては竈の神様などに供えられることもありました。鏡もちは、新しい一年の健康と幸せ、そして家族の繁栄を願う気持ちを形にした縁起物として、今も大切に受け継がれています。

この鏡もちは、庵治石の中目を使って制作しています。表面にブラスト加工を施し、「餅とり粉」をまとったお餅のようなやわらかな質感を表現しました。
二段重ねと三段重ねの二種類展開です。


Kagami mochi is a traditional Japanese New Year’s decoration, offered to welcome the Toshigami — the deity of the new year. The form of two round rice cakes stacked together is said to be inspired by a mirror, symbolizing the soul and harmony. It carries wishes for family happiness, good health, and prosperity. The two layers are often seen as representing the sun and the moon, or the past and the future — a hope that life will continue in harmony. The small orange placed on top, daidai, is associated with the idea of continuity across generations, symbolizing a family that endures. A three-tiered form expresses an even deeper wish for growing fortune and abundance. In this way, kagami mochi embodies hopes for a healthy and happy year ahead, and continues to be cherished today.

This piece is shaped from nakame, a type of Aji stone.
Its surface is gently sandblasted to evoke the soft texture of powdered rice cakes.
It is available in two forms: a two-tiered and a three-tiered composition.
Here, the quiet beauty of nature meets the touch of human hands —
forming a small kagami mochi that gently welcomes the new year.

庵治・牟礼の石の産地にも、こうした姿物を石でつくってきた歴史があります。
墓石のような幾何学的な形を正確に仕上げる技術だけでなく、図面では表せないかたちを生み出す、
職人の感覚や手仕事も、この産地を支えてきました。

SUGATAMONOは、はっきりとした用途を持つ道具とは少し異なり、人の心にそっと寄り添う「姿物」をかたちにしていくブランドです。
そこに込められた想いや背景とともに、静かに暮らしの中に在り続ける存在を目指しています。
また、ものづくりを通して職人の技術を磨き、その価値を次の世代へとつないでいくことも、大切にしていることのひとつです。

Since long ago, people have sought something to hold onto — placing their thoughts and wishes into forms known as sugatamono. This tradition continues today, quietly finding its place in everyday life. In the stone-producing region of Aji and Mure, there is also a history of shaping such forms from stone. Beyond the precision required to craft geometric forms like gravestones, this place has been sustained by the sensitivity and craftsmanship that give shape to what cannot be drawn.

SUGATAMONO is a brand that gives form to these gentle presences — objects that do not serve a fixed function, but quietly stay close to the human heart. Each piece carries a story and a feeling, existing softly within daily life. Through this work, we also seek to refine the skills of artisans and pass them on to the next generation.
